Czech mate! Hiddink’s Holland suffer late defeat

Guus Hiddink’s return as coach of Netherlands got off to the worst possible start as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat to Czech Republic.

The World Cup bronze medallists had looked set for a point after Stefan de Vrij equalised Borek Dockal’s opener, before disaster struck in stoppage time.

A dreadful error by Daryl Janmaat saw the Newcastle defender attempt to head back to goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, with the ball instead hitting the post and leaving Vaclav Pilar the simple task of tapping home for a late winner.

Jurgen's Kloppstars host Wenger's orchestra

Borussia Dortmund host Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday night with both sides looking to gain an advantage in a hugely competitive group.

But will the 80,000 supporters in the Signal Iduna Park be taking in a football match or a battle of the bands?

Jurgen Klopp compared the two club's contrasting styles as he spoke about Wenger. "He likes having the ball, playing football, passes... it’s like an orchestra," Klopp said, miming playing a violin.

No matter the football on show, one thing you can be certain of in a raucous Westfalenstadion is noise.

The Gunners' unsung squad players have driven the club forward in recent weeks, with Gervinho and 'Little Mozart' Tomas Rosicky combining well at the Hawthorns to narrow the gap to third-placed Tottenham to just a single point.

With Gareth Bale injured and Chelsea in the middle of a tiring and congested fixture list, Arsenal - who have picked up 22 points from a possible 27 in their last nine games - have the other Champions League contenders running scared.

Van Persie is Arsenal's one-man team

Arsenal boosted their prospects of qualifying for the Champions League again next season with a somewhat fortuitous 2-1 victory over Liverpool on Saturday afternoon

After spending nearly the entire game under the cosh, they stole three crucial points in injury time. The reason? Robin van Persie, who clinically finished the only two chances which came his way during the 90 minutes.

The Dutchman has now scored 31 goals in all competitions this season, seemingly single-handedly keeping his colleagues in with a shout of the top four ...
